Pledge of Allegiance
這段誓詞於1892年9月8日首次出現在《青年之友》雜誌上，作為紀念 克裏斯托弗‧哥倫布 航海到達新大陸四百週年全國性活動的一個組成部分。在學校中的愛國主義教育儀式上，該誓詞被廣泛採用。當時，誓詞的內容是：「我宣誓為我的旗幟和它所代表的共和國效忠；國家不可分割，民眾自由平等。」1924年誓詞中「我的旗幟」被「美利堅合眾國的旗幟」所取代。1942年美國政府對該誓詞予以官方認可。1954年杜威特‧艾森豪威爾總統說服國會在誓詞中加上「上帝庇佑下的」幾個詞。
多年來，對該誓詞的原作者是誰有爭議。當時的《青年之友》編輯詹姆斯‧厄珀姆和弗朗西斯‧貝拉米都聲稱自己是原作者。1957年美國國會圖書館提交的一份報告提供證據認為貝拉米是原作者。根據1954年國會通過的法律，宣誓的人應該立正，脫帽，將右手貼在胸前。

美國真的把她們的國民教的(洗腦的?)很好, 我女兒從中班開始,
就會偶爾背出這段宣誓文, 難怪多數民眾總是聽話又守法~
而且她很以她是"美國人"為傲!
