Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex
Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDHC) comprises multiple enzymes that catalyze oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate to acetyl‐CoA, an irreversible and rate‐limiting reaction in the aerobic glucose metabolism in mitochondria.228 PDHC enzymes are expressed in many cell types, and deficiency of the enzymes leads to lactic acidemia as well as neurological complications, since the brain is a highly energy dependent organ.
