Riboflavin as the glutathione reductase coenzyme
Glutathione reductase (GR) requires riboflavin in the FAD coenzyme form for its activity. GR converts oxidized glutathione to the reduced form. FAD transports hydrogen from NADPH to oxidized glutathione to convert it into the reduced form.
Reduced glutathione acts as an endogenous antioxidant in different cell types and deactivates reactive oxygen species.
